Foodies Club – Baking Babka with Caity

On Saturday, January 24, thirteen Foodies gathered at Caity’s house to learn the art of babka baking. The three-hour session was a delight from start to finish. Caity began by introducing the group to babka and sharing some of her baking secrets—demonstrating her weighing scale, proofing oven, and mixer, and explaining the importance of ingredients, measurements, and technique.

A true teaching baker, Caity had thoughtfully prepared babka at every stage of the process. She walked us through measuring and adding ingredients, mixing the dough with a hook attachment, proofing, rolling, filling with chocolate in various forms, freezing, cutting, twisting, and finally baking.

Participants also had hands-on opportunities to help make three additional babkas—chocolate, Nutella, and cinnamon. Everyone took turns rolling out dough, spreading fillings, cutting, and twisting the loaves. And then…the best part: sampling slices of two freshly baked babkas.

It was a delightful afternoon filled with learning, laughter, and plenty of delicious babka.
