Although Harford County advocates just won an appeal to keep the banned book ‘Flamer’ on school library shelves, we know the HCBOE (Board of Education) won’t give up on book-banning. And groups like Moms for Liberty will continue to promote dangerous book bans, here and nation-wide. The Harford County Board of Education will have a special virtual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 4 pm. We’re asking all of our AAUW members to send written comments (it’s a virtual meeting) to the board letting them know where we stand. Some ideas for public comment:
- accept the state Board’s decision
- don’t waste taxpayer money taking this to circuit court
- follow the Freedom to Read Act
- do what’s best for students instead of your own political agenda
- respect librarians
- state opposition to book bans in general
